Students Protest Against Increases in Tuition

Students in the state of California are protesting against the 32% increase in undergraduate tuition

The students argue that this increase will negatively affect those who benefit from state funded education, but officials argue that this increase is necessary due to the budget crisis, which has forced reductions across California's government.

Looking back on the years...our tuition here at MSU has raised significantly too! It's unbelieveable how expensive a single credit hour costs...I wonder if the cost of tuition will ever decrease? Or will it just continue to rise...? Fewer students are going to be able to go to their school of choice due to these increases...and this isn't including living, books, parking, etc.

what do you think?

  1. This is so sad to see and go through. 32% is a lot of money. I think that that is just going to make things worse. People are not going to be able to afford school and therefore, they just wont go, or take out loans and then never be able to pay them back. MSU each year raises the tuition. Even as freshmen and sophomores you pay less then a junior and senior. So crazy, I think if this country wants to be a good leader in education, they are going to need to lower the cost of college.

  2. I can't believe how much tuition is compared to what it used to be when my parents went to school. You think that our country would want to make school more accesible for EVERYONE. I think that community colleges are going to become more and more popular...

  3. Projected tuition rates for the future are outlandish. (hopefully the one's i have seen include inflation).

I know one argument that i have heard for the growing trend to raise rates (other than the fact that everyone is broke) is that so many people ARE going to college. A bachelors degree is no longer a meal ticket, because so many people have them now. [As a future teacher, i don't think this is a bad thing at all. The more kids are encouraged to attend college, the better. But for me its more of a "continuing education" rather than a meal ticket.] But because college is more wide stream than it used to be, raising rates limits the amount of students who can attend.

Just another sad and disgusting truth to the US collegiate system.
